Bio: Joel is the Assistant Professor of Sustainable Land Systems in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to joining UW, Joel was a postdoc in the Global Policy Lab. He earned a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics with a designated emphasis in Development Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2023.

Joel uses remote sensing, machine learning, and causal inference tools to study questions related to sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on agriculture.
